Walking the M'Goun gorges

What to expect on foot in the gorges above Boutaghrar, and how to prepare.

Hikers photographing the red rock formations of the Dadès gorges

Walks in the M'Goun gorges often follow the river itself, so sandals or shoes that can get wet are useful, along with sun protection and water. Conditions change with the seasons and with rainfall.

Local guides know the current state of the paths — the lodge can arrange one and advise on the right route for your level.

Before you travel

Ask for walking time, distance, terrain, elevation and river crossings for your chosen route. Confirm current weather and water conditions, footwear, guide arrangements, transport, meals and overnight stops. Do not enter a gorge without local advice on the day’s conditions.
